Privacy Policy and Confidentiality

The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse, for which Judy Ingoldsby is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, the police must be informed.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, Judy Ingoldsby will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, she will take the further measures without their permission that are provided to her by law in order to ensure their safety.
  • In couple and family therapy, or when different family members are seen individually, confidentiality and privilege do not apply between the couple or family members. Judy Ingoldsby will use her clinical judgement when revealing such information.
Disclosure of confidential information may be required by your health insurance carrier or HMO/PPO/MCO/EAP in order to process claims. Only the minimum necessary information  will be communicated to the carrier.
